[Life is Art]
As with any album or song I do the “Life is Art” ep is a very personal and emotional body of work. I am inspired by life and the way people deal with hardships and trials. The album is a collection of songs/poems that reflect life as an art form, below is a brief explanation of my rhyme and reason for the song being created. [Happy Guy] is a song written about that everyday nobody… that quiet man that shows up early and goes home late. He’s the kind of guy who loves his family, and is a master of the forced smiles but, is never looked at for advancement in the workplace. This song was completely inspired by the frustration my mom had dealt with when she worked at Motorola and her job was almost entirely handling layoffs. She would come home and cry, knowing the news she delivers on a daily basis effected so many families in a catastrophic way. Another underlying aspect of this song, is the irony in working hard everyday for the sake of your family while simultaneously, drifting away from them. [Just a Kiss] is a song that was very uncomfortable for me to write and record. Its a definite switch of styles and I just wasn’t comfortable rapping so soft in a sing songy way. The great thing is I don’t think there is another way to do the song successfully and I am happy with the final product. “Just a Kiss” was inspired by a friend of mine named Matthew, I worked with him as a loan officer at Ameriquest. I remember him coming into work tired and worn out because he was out at the bars the night before, drinking and selling himself to random female strangers. When its all said and done I showed him the song and he talked about how unhappy he truly was but he explained for that moment the “chase” makes him feel alive and important. He gave me the blessing to release the song because like he said “there are a lot of people out there just like me, living on one woman at a time”, and it starts with just a kiss. Just a Kiss mp3
[Sunrise, Sunset] to this day, is my favorite song I’ve ever done and there is a great story behind this song. Myself and a crew of emcees used to go out on a street called Mill ave. next to Arizona State University and we’d freestyle till the late hours of the night. Well after one of these night, I stopped to talk to a homeless man sitting off to the side and I found he was very intelligent and well spoken. One of the first things I noticed is he was a amputee, and he wore old military garb, he told me he was given more money as a vet but being a vet is exactly why was homeless… He was tired of being ignored and tired of being looked down upon… he told me ” the only reason I know that I’m alive is the loneliness I feel and the fact I watch the sunrise and sunset every day” without it to him, time would stand still. I bought him some fast food and went home to pen this song about him. During the recording process I talked to him several times and I totally re-hauled the song 3 to 4 times, at his request. When it was done I went out to Mill ave and he was no where to be found… so this song is dedicated to SGT. Charles Williams, I hope you find another listening ear. May God Bless you!!! [Starswinger] is by far the longest and weirdest song I’ve ever written and for whatever reason women like this song a lot more then men… go figure. The inspiration for this song is pretty simple, on a Saturday morning I was watching a really old Hercules movie, you know the kind of movie where the monsters are basically claymation and extremely fake looking. Well the idea of mythology to me was great concept for a song, a story that seemed so outlandish its almost poetic. All I needed now was a concept and I thought the story of Elijah and Enoch in the bible was a great place to start from…they went to heaven without dying. So it was born… a song about a man who wants to get to heaven without a mortal death, the irony is by the end he finds heaven in a source he wasn’t expecting… in the starswinger. Starswinger mp3
[Love Me?] is a simple and straight forward love song about the women I was in love with for years. I attempted to get her attention in every possible way and she never seemed to notice me. Eventually she would notice and we would get married have two beautiful kids but after her committing adultery we are now divorced. So honestly I can not listen to this song anymore, but I still get plenty of comments from other young love struck people who still enjoy it. Love Me? mp3
